In October, I'm opening a creative discovery studio for kids and their adults in Aylmer, Quebec. My goal is to pique kids (and their adults!) curiosity and creativity through art. This new project is a collage of everything I'm passionate about in my work as a teacher, as a community developer as well as my love of art. Above all, I'm doing this because my kids, and their friends and neighbours, absolutely love these moments of creative discovery that happen at our house, in the studio.
The Pique-Pique studio is different from a traditional art school. We're not that interested in the results and the techniques. For us, friends of the process art approach, we are into making art, together. Discovering, loving, choosing, transposing, exposing, trying, ripping, rethinking, exchanging, sharing... and making a mess.
Art is a terrain for freedom, identity and community for kids and we want to create an artistic playground so that kids and their adults can let go by using a wide variety of materials and creative prompts.
Picasso was so right. Every child is born an artist. Instruction manuals, judgement, expectations, routine, the fear of making mistakes, risks... erode children's genuine creativity. Pique-Pique is pulling out its quills against these "predators" by offering you a creative haven for you and your child/children to enjoy.
I have so many things to share with you, but let's keep these for the next posts!
